CALL FOR PAPERS: Human-robots collaboration and AI – hype or reality?

We invite researchers, academics, and industry professionals to submit contributions for the workshop on “HRC and AI, Hype or Reality? From Pilots to Best Practices,” which will be held in conjunction with the 15th edition of the European Robotics Forum, to be held from 13-15 March 2024 in Rimini, Italy. The workshop aims to explore the intersection of Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of Industry 5.0, focusing on moving from generic use cases to specific use case scenarios.

Workshop Description: Collaborative robots are pivotal in Industry 5.0, offering promising solutions to mitigate physical and mental stress, reduce skill barriers for workers, and enhance productivity. As new HRC applications emerge, the discourse is shifting towards understanding and consolidating best practices. Building upon the success of last year’s workshop, “Human-Robot Collaboration & AI in Challenging Industrial Applications,” this year’s workshop takes a bottom-up approach, utilizing real use cases to identify barriers for adoption and addressing human-centric and societal challenges associated with these advancements. The workshop will also delve into emerging formal definitions, classifications, and standardizations aimed at raising industry standards and empowering workers through HRC and AI.

Research Questions:

  1. What are the specific pilot applications where HRC and AI have demonstrated their ability to comprehend tasks and make collaborative decisions with human counterparts?
  2. What are the primary human-centric and societal challenges and barriers hindering the adoption of HRC and AI in industrial applications, and how can these challenges be overcome?
  3. What emerging reference frameworks, reference architectures, formal definitions, classifications, and standardizations are being developed to integrate HRC with AI to empower workers in Industry 5.0 environments, elevate industry standards, and ensure the safe and effective use of HRC in diverse industrial settings?

Submission Guidelines:

  • Contributions should be a maximum of 5 pages, single-column, in PDF format.
  • Submissions will undergo a peer-review process.
  • Accepted contributions will be published in the indexed Springer Proceedings in Advanced Robotics (SPAR) with Series Editors: Bruno Siciliano, Oussama Khatib.
  • Please use the standard Springer Proceedings in Advanced Robotics (SPAR) format, available at this link with Latex and Word templates.

7-10 will be accepted papers (maximum)
